Consequently, the color of the coolant may be green, orange or yellow. ![]() Look for any sign of liquid leaking, from the engine, radiator or hoses. So, if you suspect the vehicle has a coolant leak, visually inspect the engine and cooling system. The diluted liquid, is usually called coolant. Antifreeze is a concentrated product, normally based on glycol and containing inhibitors.Īs a result, it has to be diluted, to a suitable concentration for use. Usually, the coolant can be seen dripping, spraying, seeping or bubbling, from the leaky component. I figured as much, I went through it with this car. I'm hoping my car would be good for another 200k after this! I was planning on making one nice running car out of two basically if I decided to get another e36. Last time I did was before I fixed my prior coolant leak and got a new thermostat and housing. like I said though I re did the top of the engine basically if I get my head gasket replacement. I've heard of a lot of people who replaced it have had a cracked head or something else wrong with the engine/coolant system and that will lead to me dropping more money into it. I've been through it.Not sure why it won't let me reply normally on mobile. It looks like you have some cosmetic mods which can be swapped over, but plan on coolant system work and most likely suspension work on your next car which could get pricey. Just as a forewarning, if you jump ship and pick up another E36, plan on that needing work as well. Otherwise it pretty much means you'll be good for another 200k unless you overheat. What horror stories have you heard about the car after a HG replacement? Only stories I've heard are if they're done incorrectly. Anyone have a e36 to sell? I could travel.ĭ) Engine swap for an engine with low miles? Anyone know where I would find one?Īny Input, stories or ideas are greatly appreciated!!! I know how to work on them pretty well and I can swap parts to keep my daily running leaving the other one to sit while I collect money and go to Cali for the next year. Look for another e36, possibly a manual transmission and with a lot fewer miles. The thing is I wouldn't know the history, how well it was taken care of, or what repairs I would have to do it.Ĭ) This is what I'm thinking as of right now. I've heard horrid stories of e36's doing downhill after the head gasket goes.ī)Sell the car with how it is, lose a lot of money that way and buy another car for around 5k with under 100k miles hopefully. but I want to know what you guys would do or if you have any more suggestions:Ī) Replace head gasket, water pump, radiator hoses and recharge my AC while I'm there and pay 2.5k+ and hope nothing else goes wrong. Passenger door needs a new lock to be able to be opened from outside Paint on top is damaged from the sun/ Clear coat is peeling Runs, Drives and sounds good besides the leak from the head gasket. New spark plugs, sparks plug boots, spark plug wires Since I've had the car I've replaced / Pros of the car changing fluids, running high-quality fluids, warming it up and not hot rodding it. Do You guys think its worth it? The thing is I've taken really good care of the car. Anyways the shop quoted me 2-2.5 k for the head gasket replacement, water pump, head bolts and shop fees. I have to top off the coolant once or twice a week. It's not mixing coolant, oil or exhaust but its leaking coolant slowly. When I got my transmission fluid changed I told them to look at it and they sourced it at the head gasket. Now I have been fixing up the interior a little (Door panels, headliner) and I noticed I had a leak. The engine was replaced and it has around 150k on it I would say.(Not even sure how true this is to be honest) It's had a lot of problems but I've put a lot of money and time into it. Hey, everyone! I have a 325is 1994 Coupe Automatic and I've had it since 2013.
